War Story 04:36
I didn't come to hear about it all. About your medals. Just poor the kettle out. I didn't come to hear the tale how you commandeered and paid them well. I disn't come to hear the bodies fall. I heard about the poison arrows, And how it happened when the passage narrowed. The songs of engineers and canon balls played on fifes and drums and I don't know what else. The ones that sound like anthems ring, but didn't come to hear you sing. Didn't come to smell the alcohol. I heard about their final hours, and how they died drowning in the shadows. So why'd you ask me here just for me to listen, just for my permission. I'm constant but diminished, so let's get down to business. Stop messing with the witness. All for one, you say, and one for all. Now tell me just how much it mattered. The ones you'd trade for the ones you'd gather for just one more day. And how you felt, when it came to pass and when their ashes scattered. All for one, you say, and one for all.

The Fever 04:31
I think I've lost all feeling. I'm convicted but I'm appealing. It's a story worth repeating. It's no cooler on the floor than on the ceiling. I'm bad advice beyond the pail, a favorite vice you can't do well, and once or twice a broken bitter shell. I'm a flattened penny on the rail, a sacrifice, an engine fail, a lover's doubts before their wedding bells. You should run run run, love. I'm half the imagine in the frame, the one left crying in the rain. I'm Noah's Arc without the weather vane. I'm torn apart and I'm to blame, I'm a movie star without a name. I'm a broken heart who feels no pain. Are you a believer now? Have you caught the fever now? I think it's lost all meaning. I've been arrested for never leaving. If I confess to only cheating am I forgiven? Is that misleading? Are you a believer now? Have you caught the fever now?

I remember watching you dropping out, dropping LSD and falling down behind the couch, making friends and making out all night. Somehow you turned out alright. Are those the Black Flag bars on the back of your arm? Is that a Misfits skull on the back of your car? How do you live in Venice where canals are home to tennis courts and wealthy sorts. And punk's not dead, but somehow drives a Porsche? Well, can we get on with this? I want to believe in the last words that you said. The hunters and me, we're stuck in the weeds and out here left for dead. The pheasants and flees, around us like a net. You promised us, please, on New Year's Eve. You promised us your best. Is that the song you wrote on a borrowed guitar? Is that the watch you stole from your friend at the bar? And with all the best of intentions, your pals are prone to cargo shorts and watching sports. Punk's not dead but it hasn't come too far. Well, can't we get on with this? Your resolution! Your revolution! Not an execution!

I tend not to believe you. I leave these things alone. I leave my safety at home. I know my eyes are see-through, mind and blood and bone, the only skin I own. When I lie I don't mean to. Sometimes I'm lazy and maybe, just maybe, distracted by the sound of the traffic too. But I'll come back when I need to. A resurrection, a redirection of exits, of emptiness. I heard a song on the airwaves, a classic rock love song just how loose to hold on. I heard the radio's DJ sending dedications, selling me medications. If you ask I'll say that I'm OK. I'll say that I planned for it all, the first, the fist and the fall. Everyone bleeds out and everyone breathes in. And everyone's accountable within reason. Everyone bleeds out, and everyone breathes in. We're not expected to win. And when the scene's gone out, and we've been left without, maybe we try again. Or maybe I need to skip through the previews, stay away from all of the reviews. Everyone bleeds out.

The signs all point to connections. The interstates offer suggestions. The city's asleep, the city's awake, the city's on a path to destruction. I loved you for a minute like caffeine. Were you ever in love with me? Were you ever even in love with me? Are you a destroyer? Can you tell me, what do you require? Are you an angel with a plan, or a devil with a hammer? Maybe you're a forest fire. Or maybe you're a Camp Nine. You sink me something like a depth charge. The ground is shaking more than last time. Ah, we're out here chasing comets in the hills above the lights. We pay our way to get away from you. We'll come back when the sun is upon us, but only if you promise to hold us. If I asked you for a miracle would it sound like Auld Lang Syne or something of its kind, a brand new start and something lyrical? If our love was borderline, then the gaps in our history are forever and a mystery. Were you ever even in love with me?

JackKnifed 04:12
I can barely sing along, so instead just carry on. Can't make the grade or make it up to you. Once we played for all the kids, kept our cool like the others did. Pretending all the way, but nowadays... She's a tightrope miracle, walking on wings outside my window. When the weather gets biblical she takes to the sky. Sometimes the balance is difficult, and sometimes I'm terrified. But she knows when to run, when to fly. (Pretending all the way) Says she's only, as lonely as a trucker who's been jackknifed. Out in the cold she, she told me she'd been thinking about her life. The nights are a crucible when the party is audable. And the silence is preferable to the sounds from the stereo. If the tension's invisible, but it suspends her from end to end. From ledge to ledge, my friend, my friend. Walking with wings again and again. Says she's only, as lonely as a trucker who's been jackknifed. Out in the cold she, she told me that it only happened twice. If the lights are far too long and the lights have come and gone. Don't feel the pain, feel the gratitude. 'Cause at these heights the noise is gone. Nothing's real and nothing's wrong. It's just the haze, just the altitude. We know, she knows it's a long way down.

I wish that you weren't so underground. I wish that you were mine. If you plug in but you don't make a sound, it won't be worth our time. There's no reason we won't work. It doesn't matter who gets there first in line. Make it heavy or mellow, it's fine. There's no applause and no parade no matter the songs you'll ever make. You've got some nerve, and I've got some nerve but we're not the first to start with a heartbeat and call it fait accomplit. Honest to god, if it's all that we got what is the cost of being louder than loss, of spending hours off your cross. If you won't tear it up or tear it down, if you won't cross the line. If you won't make it up, if you won't come around there's nothing to decide. I had some nerve, but I lost my nerve, but I'm still in time with the heartbeat. A call-to-arms in the hot seat. Honest to god, honest to god what is the cost of being louder than loss, just come down off your cross. Meet me in the basement where the pipes just froze. No one knows about it. The sound just goes and goes. Meet me in the basement for the basement shows. Some day we'll tell our kids about it. Some day when we've grown old.

If I'm the river, you're the delta. If I'm the weather you're the shelter. I've tried to tell her she's at the center. Chasing demons from the cellar. There's coliseums and museums. And when we see them, we feel so free then. Through the trees and the lakes and seas and... Beneath the northern lights. I found your letter, a simple gesture. Some years on it's even better. Oh, cathedral. Oh, cross and steeple. Chateaus and people. The righteous and evil. Someday we'll meet them, but now until then at least we'll feel alright. There's coliseums and museums. And when we see them, we feel so free then. Through the trees and the lakes and seas and... Beneath the northern lights. Oh, cathedral on the square. Take me over, take me there.

The River 04:11
Ferry me away. Carry a candle for the one you've lost. I wonder if we cross the river and if the promise is delivered.

about

On the day of this release I turn 50 years-old. The second full-length under my solo shingle, ANDEMIC, this is an "I'm still here" gesture to stay connected to you all.

Writing and recording at home has allowed me to maintain a thru-line in my life, a way of staying connected to music, my youth, my friends and a community who helped shape the best parts of me. If there's a theme it's largely death and gratitude because, really, what else is there?

I'm remarkably proud of these 10 songs and what they represent. I wanted to see if I could write a complete collection of tunes that were all grabbers, all songs that if you listened to individually felt like they could each be the opening or closing track of a record. I don't have a "hit" in me, but this is likely the catchiest, most listenable body of bangers I've ever compiled.

Still moving. Still seeking. Lest, the alternative.
